Resist - Music of Defiance:
Interlude - Human Acts
Tonhain - Thorwaldsenstr. 26 - 12157 Berlin
In collaboration with the Berlin-based Tonhain Kollektiv - a association of classically trained musicians from around the world - this programme combines the music of Isang Yun with a literary and philosophical examination of Han Kang's novel Human Acts, creating a powerful dialogue about the human victims of authoritarianism.
Isang Yun, a Korean composer and political prisoner, imbued his compositions with a deep commitment to freedom and cultural identity. His music reflects experiences of persecution, abduction and exile – transformed into a musical language of great intensity and inner tension. In texts and reflections, tauchgold develops a dialogue between literature, music and the present. In doing so, central motifs and questions from the novel Human Acts are taken up and related to Isang Yun's music. The interdisciplinary programme spans the arc to current political developments – including in Iran and the USA – and invites the audience to reflect on memory, responsibility and the unbroken core of human dignity.
